Need help with the following exception in IE: Found browser window using ShellWindows API, but could not attach to the browser IWebBrowser2 object

Hi, I am currently automating test scripts for a GxP client. While using IE; the browser opens and the below message is displayed: This is the initial start page for the WebDriver server. In the IDE the following error is displayed: “Exception in thread “main” org.openqa.selenium.NoSuchSessionException: Unexpected error launching Internet Explorer. Found browser window using ShellWindows API, but could not attach to the browser IWebBrowser2 object. (WARNING: The server did not provide any stacktrace information)” I have tried the following:

  1. Protected mode zones are same for all (The error message should be diff for this but mentioning it anyway)
  2. Zoom level is 100 (The error message should be diff for this but mentioning it anyway)
  3. Used the below code: DesiredCapabilities capability = DesiredCapabilities.internetExplorer(); capability.setCapability(InternetExplorerDriver.INTRODUCE_FLAKINESS_BY_IGNORING_SECURITY_DOMAINS, true); capability.setCapability(InternetExplorerDriver.IGNORE_ZOOM_SETTING, true); capability.setCapability(CapabilityType.ACCEPT_SSL_CERTS, true); InternetExplorerDriver IEdriver = new InternetExplorerDriver(capability);
  4. caps.setCapability(InternetExplorerDriver.INITIAL_BROWSER_URL, “URL”); In this case; the URL is loaded but nothing further happens.

Please let me know if I need to set the Keys and Advanced Protected mode setting as suggested in – https://github.com/SeleniumHQ/selenium/wiki/InternetExplorerDriver#Required_Configuration.

As this client is GxP validated; I did not have access to Security tab. It was overridden by a .reg file.  Also I do not have edit access to regedit. Keeping this in mind; is there a way to get IE working?
