Load testing with selenium webdriver

Answered

Hi, whilst I haven’t come to this subject yet in the webdriver tutorials I am going through, I thought I’d ask the question……if I want to perform load testing, is it possible for me to perform this in Selenium? Failing that, are there any open source tools that would be recommended?

HI Andy,

Selenium provides an easily scalable testing framework called Selenium Grid. You can use this in conjunction with TestNG to create a scalable load-testing framework. Scale by distributing tests on several machines with parallel execution.

But still you would not be able to put a good load using above and we should not use Selenium for the things it is not meant for. The only purpose of GRID and Parallel testing is to save some time with wider coverage.

There are N number of free tools available in market:
Jmeter: http://jmeter.apache.org/
Java Performance Tuning : http://www.javaperformancetuning.com/tips/j2ee_srvlt.shtml#REF12

great, thank you Laksh. Once I’ve finished my tutorials I’ll get on to learning about Jmeter. With regard to Selenium Grid, I don’t know a lot about this……is it something that is still commonly used? Also, what are the main benefits using it brings?

Cheers
