RE: Selenium vs QTP

I have a question that has been in my mind for a while., and was hoping someone who has had experience of both Selenium and QTP may be able to answer. I know this is based on peoples own opinions, but what are the differences between using QTP and using Selenium?

Basically, my understanding of test automation has come from using Selenium….mainly because it is free and didn’t require my company to invest the money in QTP. With QTP costing so much money, I’d be interested to hear anyone’s opinions on what justifies the outlay? It’s something I may need to delve into further in the future but would be interested in peoples thoughts.

Thanks Amitjain, appreciate you taking the time to answer that for me. On the flipside of the coin, are there any things that Selenium is better at than QTP in your opinion?

Selenium is a great tool, which brought revolution in functional testing. I LOVE IT, but unfortunately OPENQA who created it is now shut down šŸ™

1. SeleniumĀ provides binding with python, java,c#,ruby so any one knowing these language can write it’s framework,Ā For QTP scripting language is mandatory u cannot write it’s script in java

2. Configuring selenium itself will give u so much of learning bring u lot more towards DEVELOPMENT so weĀ can become SDET type profile person

3. Maven,Jenkins,Testng/JUNIT,Selenium APIĀ integrated together make it complete functional tool.

4. Selenium GRID version is highly useful to test cross browser running test cases in parallel.

4. New tools building provide support forĀ selenium API like Appium is mobile testing tool , but u can use selenium api’s with it
